Is Yoda A Doula?

As I watched Star Wars the other day (I’m a huge fan), I was struck by something.

Yoda is just like a doula; nurturing, caring, providing inspiration and knowledge without passing judgement.

Inspiring confidence so that people make their own decisions whilst empowering them with knowledge. Someone who offers practical and emotional support but without telling people what to do. And always on the side of good!

I googled “Yoda and Doula” and alongside lots of yoga sites, it came up with a blogpost by Atlanta Birth Centre entitled “Your Personal Yoda: What A Doula Can Do For You”. So it wasn’t just me who was seeing the Yoda-like qualities in doulas, or for me the other way around, the doula-like qualities in Yoda!

So that got me thinking some more: can you actually apply Yoda’s wisdom to birth.

Here’s a few of *Doula” Master Yoda’s quotes:

“Do or do not, there is no try”

“Always pass on what you have learned”

And what does *Doula* Master Yoda say about fear (of birth) leading to the dark side:

“The path to the dark side, fear is”

“Named must your fear be before banish it you can”

Then if you replace the word “Jedi” with the word “Doula”, here’s what *Doula* Master Yoda says:

“Secret, shall I tell you? Grand Master of Doula Order am I. Won this job in a raffle I did, think you? “How did you know, how did you know, Master Yoda?” Master Yoda knows these things. His job it is.”

“A Doula must have the deepest commitment, the most serious mind.”

“You will know (the good from the bad) when you are calm, at peace. Passive. A Doula uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack. “

“Yes, a Doula’s strength flows from the Force. But beware of the dark side. Anger, fear, aggression; the dark side of the Force are they. Easily they flow, quick to join you in a fight.”

“To be Doula is to face the truth, and choose. Give off light, or darkness”
